Use your songbook offline, with no signal
Stage Friend works without an internet connection: your songs, chords and setlists are kept on your device, so everything you need on stage opens even when the venue has no signal. That matters most where the signal is worst, like a basement bar or a festival field where a thousand phones share one mast. Anything you change offline is saved on the device and sent as soon as you are back online.
What works offline
Everything you do with your own songs works offline: opening and playing songs and setlists, swiping from song to song, transposing, autoscroll, the metronome, your foot pedal and every setting. You can edit offline too, write a new song or fix a chord in the van, and the change is saved on the device and sent as soon as you are online again. Removing a member from your band works the same way and goes through once you're back online.
Offline on Android, iPhone, iPad and the web
How Stage Friend got onto your device decides how it starts offline. The Android app from Google Play carries everything it needs, so it opens with no signal at all.
On an iPhone, an iPad or a computer, Stage Friend runs in the browser, and it keeps working offline once you've opened it online on that device. The screens you have already used there open without a signal, so before a gig, open the songs and setlists you'll play while you still have one. Open Stage Friend the same way each time, from the same browser or the same home screen icon, because a different browser starts without your songs; Install Stage Friend shows how to put it on the home screen.
What needs a connection
Anything that fetches from outside your device, or talks to the rest of the band as it happens, needs a connection. That means searching for new songs on the web, browsing an artist's albums, playing from Spotify or YouTube, sending and managing band invitations, your audience's votes and requests, and following a band member live. In a browser, Voice Scroll needs a connection to start, while in the Android app it works offline once its language is downloaded.
How long you stay signed in offline
You stay signed in offline for 30 days after you last opened Stage Friend with a connection, which covers a long run of gigs with a bad signal. Settings, Account shows how many days are left under Offline access expires in, and when fewer than seven days remain it shows a warning there too. Opening Stage Friend with a connection starts the 30 days over.
Be ready before the gig
The habit worth having is to open Stage Friend once with a connection on the device you play from, before you leave for the gig. That way the latest changes from your band come with you, including the setlist someone fixed last night, and in a browser the songs you open are ready to open offline. On the free plan your own bands are kept on the device you use, so play from that one. Then open your setlist and you're ready for the count-in.
