Import ChordPro files, a Spotify playlist or a spreadsheet

Stage Friend also imports ChordPro and text files from any chord app, a Spotify playlist, a list from Excel or Google Sheets, and a list you type yourself. These are the way in when your old app isn't on the list, or when your songs live in a playlist or a spreadsheet rather than an app. Files bring lyrics and chords; a playlist or a list brings titles and artists, and Stage Friend helps you find the chords later. All of them start where every import starts, see Start an import.

    ChordPro or text files

Most chord apps can export ChordPro, the plain text format with chords in square brackets, so this is the way in from almost anywhere, OnSong included. Choose ChordPro or text files and drop the files, or a zip of them, or tap the box to pick them. Each file becomes one song, so one file or a hundred both work, and the title, artist, key and length come from the file where it has them; a file without a title takes its file name. Stage Friend reads .cho, .chopro, .chordpro, .crd, .pro, .onsong and .txt files, and plain text with the chords over the lyrics works too. A zip inside another zip isn't read, so unpack it first.

    A Spotify playlist

If your band already keeps its repertoire as a Spotify playlist, that's a quick start. Choose Spotify playlist and paste the playlist's link: your own playlists and other public ones work, but private playlists and the ones Spotify makes, like Top 50, can't be fetched. Every song is added with its title, artist and length, without lyrics, and when you first open one, Stage Friend helps you find its chords. The playlist can become a setlist in the same order too. On the free plan, those chord lookups count as web imports, while adding the songs themselves doesn't. Links to single Spotify songs work as well, one per line.

A list in Excel or Google Sheets

Plenty of bands keep their song list in a spreadsheet, and Stage Friend reads it as it is. Choose A list in Excel or Google Sheets, copy the rows and paste them, or drop or pick a .csv, .tsv or .txt file with the list. Title and artist in two columns works, so does everything in one cell, and the title alone is fine too; a header row and numbering are skipped. Each row is matched against Spotify, and you can Swap a wrong match before the songs are added.

    Write a list yourself

When your songs are on a piece of paper by the music stand, type them in as a list. Choose Write a list yourself and write one song per line, the title, a dash and the artist, like Wonderwall - Oasis. The title alone works too, and Stage Friend finds the song for you. Once your songs are in, make a setlist for the next gig, set up autoscroll or a page turner pedal, and invite your band so everyone plays from the same songs.

    Questions

Which file types can Stage Friend import?
Stage Friend imports ChordPro files (.cho, .chopro, .chordpro, .crd, .pro), OnSong files (.onsong), plain text (.txt) and zip files of them. It also reads SongbookPro backups and .sbp files, BandHelper exports, Setlist Helper backups, and song lists as .csv, .tsv or .txt.
Why can't my Spotify playlist be fetched?
Private playlists and playlists made by Spotify itself, like Top 50, can't be fetched. Make the playlist public, or copy its songs into a playlist of your own.
