Settings: the app's look, text, pedal and account
Settings in Stage Friend holds how the app looks and how your songs read, your foot pedal and keys, Voice Scroll, your account and your plan. Most musicians open it twice: once at the start to make the lyrics big enough to read from the music stand, and again when they pair a page turner pedal. Most of what you set stays on that device, so the tablet on the stand can read differently from the phone in your pocket.

Open Settings
You'll go to Settings to change the theme before a gig in a dark room, set the text size, set up a foot pedal or check your plan. On a phone or tablet, open the menu and choose Settings at the end of its first page, under Account. On a computer with a mouse it's the gear at the bottom of the narrow bar on the left, below your bands, and the person icon under it goes straight to your account. On a phone, Settings opens on its list of categories and each one opens its own page. On a computer or a wide tablet, it opens the category you had open last, or Appearance the first time, with the list beside it.
From a song you can also jump straight to the pedal settings, which is handy while you try a pedal: on the chords and lyrics page, open the three dots and choose Pedal & keys.
What is in Settings
Appearance is where you choose the theme, light, dark or the extra dark Stage theme made for playing live, and the language of the app. Text and chords is the one most people open first. It sets how the lyrics look and how big they are when a song opens, how the chords stand out above the words, and how song sections such as verse and chorus are marked. A preview shows part of a song as you change things, so you can judge it before you try it on a real song.
Pedal & keys sets up a foot pedal or a keyboard: which key or pedal does what, such as scrolling down or going to the next song, and what a press, a double press or a hold does. Voice Scroll is where you download the languages it can listen in when the lyrics follow your singing.
The last three are about you rather than your songs. Account shows who you're signed in as, and is where you change your password, sign out or delete your account. Subscription shows your plan and is where you upgrade or change it. Storage and data shows whether your songs are Synced to cloud or kept Local only, see Sync status.
Settings are kept on each device
Most settings stay on the device you set them on, and that's on purpose. The tablet on the music stand can have big lyrics and the Stage theme while your phone keeps a normal size for looking things up at home, and the pedal keys belong to the device the pedal is paired with. The theme, the language, the text and chord settings and the pedal keys are all kept this way. Your account and your plan, on the other hand, follow you to every device you sign in on.
Inside a song you can still zoom by hand, and a song you have zoomed keeps its own size, see Zoom one song. When the lyrics read the way you like, the next step is often a foot pedal or autoscroll, so you never have to let go of the instrument to turn the page.
Questions
- Do my Stage Friend settings follow me to a new device?
- No, most settings, such as the theme, the text size and your pedal keys, are kept on the device where you set them. Your account and your plan follow you everywhere you sign in.
- Can I make the lyrics bigger for every song at once?
- Yes, Size in Settings under Text and chords decides how big every song is when it opens. A song you have zoomed yourself keeps its own size, see Bigger lyrics.
