Move from OnSong to Stage Friend

You can move from OnSong to Stage Friend by exporting your OnSong library as ChordPro files and dropping them into Stage Friend's import, which keeps the lyrics and chords of every song. Nobody wants to type a few hundred songs in again, and this way you don't: one export takes the whole book. Your songs then open on Android phones and tablets too, and in a web browser. The export carries songs rather than sets, so this page also says how to rebuild them.

    1Export from OnSong

OnSong can export every song at once, so you only do this once. In OnSong, tap the share icon and choose Export, set the scope to Book so it takes the whole collection, and the format to ChordPro, then export. You get your songs as ChordPro files, one per song. If they land in a folder in Files rather than a zip, you can press and hold the folder and compress it into one zip, or drop the files as they are. OnSong's own backup file is not read, so use this export.

    2Drop it into Stage Friend

Start an import, choose ChordPro or text files and drop the zip or the files in, or tap the box to pick them. Each file becomes one song, with its title, artist, key, lyrics and chords, and you look through the list before anything is added. Single .onsong song files work too, so you can bring a song or two over later the same way. If you'd like to look before you make an account, drop the export at go.stagefriend.app/try instead: it's read on your device, and you see your songs as they will look in the app before you decide to keep them.

    What stays behind

The export holds songs, not sets, so your OnSong sets don't come over. Building them again takes a minute per set, since the songs are already in your library: make a setlist, pick the songs and drag them into order. Recordings and PDFs stay in OnSong, and tempo and capo aren't kept, so set the tempo in the metronome and use transpose instead of a capo.

Once you're in, open one of your new setlists and swipe from song to song, see Play a setlist. Then it's worth setting up autoscroll, which rolls the lyrics at the song's own pace, or a page turner pedal, and if you play in a band, invite your bandmates on Solo Pro or Stage Pro so everyone reads from the same songs.

    Questions

Can I try it before I sign up?
Yes, you can drop your OnSong export at go.stagefriend.app/try and see your songs in Stage Friend before you make an account. See Try it before you sign up.
Do my OnSong sets come over?
No, OnSong's ChordPro export holds songs but not sets. Your songs come over with lyrics and chords, and you rebuild each set as a setlist from them.
Can I import OnSong's backup file?
No, Stage Friend doesn't read OnSong's backup file. Export your library as ChordPro with the scope set to Book instead, which brings every song.
